On August 29, 2013 an official re-launch of the Quinte Region Traffic Coalition (QRTC) took place at the National Air Force Museum of Canada at 8 Wing/CFB Trenton to acknowledge the development of a Strategic Road Safety Action Plan as well as to welcome new partners.
The QRTC was initially formed in 2009 in partnership with the Hastings & Prince Edward Counties Health Unit, Belleville Police Service, Stirling-Rawdon Police Service and OPP Detachments serving Bancroft, Central Hastings, Prince Edward County and Quinte West to reduce the frequency, severity and impact of preventable injuries on area roads, trails and waterways. Yesterday 21 Military Police Flight and Napanee OPP joined the Coalition and all involved members participated in the signing of the mission statement. In addition the Labour Day Weekend Distracted Driving Campaign was also launched.
The priorities for the Coalition for 2013-2016 are distracted driving, aggressive driving and impaired driving as these three areas have been identified as major contributors to deaths and injuries on area roadways. Other road, off-road and marine issues will continue to be addressed by the coalition members as the need arises.
