On Saturday, July 16, 2016, at approximately 4:37 a.m., officers were travelling northbound on Highway 54 when they had to take evasive action to avoid a head on collision with another motor vehicle that was travelling southbound in their lane.

Officers were able to safely stop the vehicle at a Talbot Street West address.

As a result, police have charged 36-year-old Benjamin Chad HILL of Haldimand County, Ontario with impaired driving, fail or refuse to provide sample, red light – fail to stop and drive motor vehicle – no currently validated permit.

He is to appear in Provincial Court, Cayuga at a later date to answer to the charges.

“As a result of the quick thinking actions of the officer, they were able to prevent a potential deadly collision for occurring. Drinking and driving puts everyone at risk and will not be tolerated.” Comments Constable Ed Sanchuk, Haldimand County OPP.
