(CALEDON, ON) – On Sunday, September 22, 2013, shortly after 3 am, an officer from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting speed enforcement in the area of Highway 10 and Escarpment Side Road. The officer observed a black Nissan SUV travelling northbound on Highway 10 at a speed of 113 kms/hr. in a posted 80 km/hr. zone. As a result, the officer activated the cruiser’s emergency equipment and conducted a vehicle stop. Upon speaking to the male driver, the officer detected a strong odour of alcohol on his breath. The male was arrested and transported to Detachment for further testing. A search of the vehicle following his arrest uncovered a bottle of alcohol beside the driver’s seat.
Once the investigation was concluded, Philip H. DEWAR, 27, of Orangeville was arrested and charged with Over 80 mgs. The driver is also charged under the Liquor Licence Act of Ontario and the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.
The Administrative Drivers’ Licence Suspension (ADLS) program was initiated and his motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.
The accused is scheduled to make his first appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on October 17, 2013.
