Perth County Weekend Traffic In A Nutshell

(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH EAST, ON) – On Friday April 08, 2016, around 7:30 p.m., a Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was conducting speed enforcement on Hwy 7/8 between Shakespeare and New Hamburg, when a fast moving vehicle was observed.

A Chevrolet Trailblazer was driving eastbound on Hwy 7/8 at an excessive rate of speed. The officer activated the police radar and locked the vehicle in at a speed of 137 km/h. This is 57 km/h above the posted 80 km/h zone. The officer conducted a traffic stop on the Trailblazer.

The male driver of the Trailblazer, 27-year-old Kody Arnold JOHNSON of Huron-Kinloss Twp. was issued a summons for “race motor vehicle”. He is to appear in Stratford Court on April 26, 2016 to answer to this charge. His driver’s licence was suspended for seven days and his vehicle was towed from the scene and has been impounded for a week.

(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH EAST, ON) – On Friday April 08, 2016, shortly after 11:30 p.m., Perth County OPP officers patrolled Hwy 7/8 east of Stratford in response to complaints of a possible impaired driver. It was reported that a GMC Safari van with very dim lights appeared to be swerving in its lane as it was driving west bound on the highway.

Officers located the van and while speaking to the male driver determined that he was fatigued. The driver a resident of North York was charged for driving a motor vehicle without proper headlights contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

(PERTH COUNTY, ON) – Between Friday April 8th and Sunday April 10th at midnight The Perth County OPP also investigated six minor motor vehicle collisions. The majority of these collisions were due to drivers not adjusting their speeds to the icy road conditions.

Perth County OPP officers also operated the Automated Licence Plate Recognition cruiser and as a result charged ten motorists with driving their motor vehicle with expired plates, two drivers who were suspended from driving and one driver was stopped for being unlicensed.

The Perth County OPP wants to remind the public that as the weather starts getting warmer more traffic will be appearing on our roadways. The OPP will actively monitor the “Big 4” driving behaviours; impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving, and seatbelt usage.
