Thefts From Vehicles

(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently investigating the theft of items from unlocked vehicles parked on two rural residential driveways.

Investigation revealed that sometime between 8 p.m. Thursday April 07, 2016 and 7 a.m. Friday April 08, 2016, unknown culprits entered an unlocked car parked in a driveway along Perth Line 88 west of Gowanstown. A second unlocked car, parked in a residential driveway along Perth Line 89 north/west of Gowanstown was also entered. From the first vehicle a $200 pair of binoculars was taken, while the second vehicle was rummaged through and a backpack was removed from within.

Rural property owners often are under the mistaken impression that these types of thefts only occur in built-up areas. These thefts occur everywhere, and they are largely crimes of opportunity. Lock your vehicle, remove your keys and do not leave valuables in plain view. If you observe suspicious activity in your neighbourhood promptly call police. Your call to police may help police solve a crime.

Crime prevention is everyone’s business; please do your part to make your community safer.
