(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – A 67 year old female driver is facing an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and a court date following a traffic stop on Wednesday, March 25, 2015. At approximately 3:20 p.m. at the intersection of South Street and Suncoast Drive in Goderich an off duty Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer spotted the driver of a Toyota Rav4 consuming what appeared to be alcohol from a bottle of liquor. The off-duty officer followed the driver until patrol officers were able to stop the suspect vehicle.
The driver was stopped on Huron Road in Holmesville by patrol officers and upon speaking with the female driver they noted the female had been consuming alcohol. Officers also located an open bottle of alcohol inside the vehicle. A roadside screening test was performed and the driver registered a fail. She was placed under arrest for Drive Motor Vehicle with Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol and was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. She later provided two samples of her breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both samples resulted in readings over the legal limit.
As a result, 67 year old Patricia CLIFFORD from Goderich has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol and Drive Motor Vehicle – Open Container of Liquor. She has a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on May 4, 2015. She also received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and her motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.
