Passenger Gets Obstruction Charge At RIDE

(GUELPH-ERAMOSA TOWNSHIP, ON) – On December 27, 2014 at approximately 8:41 p.m. members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were investigating the driver of a motor vehicle that entered into a R.I.D.E. spot check on Brock Road near Cockburn Road in Puslinch Township.

As police escorted the female driver to the cruiser for the purpose of completing a breath test, the male passenger became belligerent with police and started yelling at the driver not to cooperate with police. The male ignored numerous requests by the officers to return to the vehicle and was cautioned regarding obstructing police during an investigation. The male was taken into custody after a brief struggle.

Shawn MACKENZIE age 40 of Guelph has been charged with Obstruct Peace Officer, Resist Peace Officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada as well as Have Open Liquor in Vehicle contrary to the Liquor Licence Act. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on February, 2015 to answer to the charges.
