(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment want to alert the public after a police investigated an incident at a Simson Avenue, Simcoe, Norfolk County,Ontario address.
On Thursday, April 24, 2014 at approximately 11:47 a.m., a resident received a call from what appeared to be a local number from an unknown male. The male claimed to be calling from a legitimate airline company and informed the homeowner that they were calling because the resident was a frequent flyer of the airline and they needed to update their credit card information that was currently on file.
The male then requested the credit card number and the three digit Credit Card Verification (CCV) number on the back of the credit card. The male advised that this information was being asked in order to confirm that the homeowner was physically in possession of the credit card to prevent any fraud related activity.
The resident immediately became suspicious and did not provide any information. The phone call was ended and police were contacted.
“The OPP are urging all residents to be aware of unsolicited calls representing legitimate companies. Never give out personal information or credit card information over the phone. If it seems too good to be true…it is,†– comments Constable Ed Sanchuk, Norfolk County OPP.
