(ORILLIA, ON) The OPP have confirmed that there was a single unintended discharge of an OPP firearm during a police operation in the Peterborough area on August 11. There were no injuries as a result of the unintended discharge, but some minor property damage did result.
The firearm in question was an OPP-issued C8 service rifle. Since the incident is currently under review, further details are not being released.
The OPP sets high behavioural and training standards for all employees. The OPP reviews all use of force incidents and when appropriate investigates and takes corrective action if warranted.
