(MATHESON) – The Matheson OPP and the South Porcupine OPP Crime Unit are
in the midst of investigating a suspicious fire which occurred at the hydro dam on
Watabeag Lake at some point during the first week of July.
The dam is a wooden structure built in the 1940’s and is the property of the Ministry
of Natural Resources.
The damage to the structure due to the fire is deemed to be extensive and repair
costs could fall between 3.3 and 3.5 million dollars.
The fire is deemed to be suspicious in nature.
Anyone with pertinent information about this event or perhaps having seen anything
suspicious in the Watabeag Lake area during the first week of July, is asked to call
