OPP RIDE Check

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) – A RIDE check initiated by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) resulted in a local female having her driver’s licence suspended.

On February 23, 2014 OPP officers established a RIDE check program at the intersection of Highway 35 and Long Beach Road. When a vehicle attempted to avoid the RIDE program by turning into a nearby driveway, officers initiated an investigation.

The officer was able to determine that the driver had been consuming alcohol and as a result of the investigation the driver had her driver’s licence suspended for 3 days. The vehicle was also towed from the scene.

The City of Kawartha Lakes detachment of the OPP conducts RIDE check programs throughout the year and would like to remind motorists that road safety starts with drivers making good decisions in regards to drinking and driving. If you drink, don’t drive!
