(GRAFTON, ON) – Sometime between Monday February 17 and Tuesday February 18, 2014 two 20 kilowatt portable generators were stolen from two separate construction sites on Cowie Road in Cramahe Township. These generators were valued at approximately $25,000 each. Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) entered into an investigation into this theft.
On Wednesday February 19, 2014 OPP Central East Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU) Northumberland Street Response Team (SRT) and Central Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) executed a search warrant at a residence on Telephone Road near Grafton, Ontario.
While Police were searching the property for the stolen generators, they located a green John Deere 9550 model combine with an attached flex cutter head on it. Through further investigation, this combine was determined to be reported stolen to York Regional Police on Thursday September 13, 2012 and valued at $165,000. The two generators were recovered as a result of the search warrant execution. The total value of all the property recovered at this property is $215,000.
As a result of this continuing investigation, OPP have arrested and charged Edward Philip MAZUREK, 30 from Colborne, Ontario with three counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 under the Criminal Code. The accused was released on a promise to appear and an undertaking given to an officer in charge to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on Wednesday April 23, 2014 at 9:30 am.
