OPP MAKE ARREST IN ARMED ROBBERY EVENT IN KAPUSKASING

(KAPUSKASING, ON) -On July 1, 2014, shortly after 8:15 pm, the Kapuskasing Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a robbery event at the Short Stop Convenience store located in Kapuskasing, Ontario.

Responding OPP officers were at the scene within minutes of the report but could not locate the suspect who had since fled the scene.

The investigation revealed that minutes before police were called, a suspect female wearing black clothing, dark sunglasses and a pink and peach bandana over her face entered the convenience store located at 106 Brunetville Road in Kapuskasing. During that time, the suspect female demanded money while waving a knife several times at the cashier and store owner and removed approximately $1,000 in cash from the register before fleeing the scene.

On July 2, 2014, as a result of an extensive and thorough investigation conducted by the Kapuskasing OPP and the James Bay Detachments Crime Unit, police located, arrested and charged a 27 year old female in relation to the convenience store robbery.

The accused female from Kapuskasing has been charged with one count of Robbery with a Weapon, One count of Disguise with Intent and one count of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000, all contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused remains in police custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane for a bail hearing on July 4, 2014.
