OPP INVESTIGATING THEFT OF SNOWMOBILE

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to encourage snowmobile owners to secure their sleds when not in use.

On March 7, 2014 an officer from the City of Kawartha Lakes detachment of the OPP attended a residence on Meadowview Road in response to the theft of a snowmobile. Stolen from this location was a 1997 SCR-SP, 600 triple, white in colour.

This is an on-going concern this year with Central region having close to 40 thefts reported and the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP detachment already investigating six such thefts.

The OPP is encouraging owners to secure their sleds when not in use. Removing keys is paramount but storing machines in a locked garage when available will also serve as a deterrent. If sleds have to be stored outside, it is suggested that the machines be chained to a tree or permanent object to help prevent these thefts.

Anyone having information on this crime or any others is asked to contact the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Information can also be reported anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or by going to www.khcs.ca and submitting an anonymous tip online.
