(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment has received a complaint from a Norfolk County resident at a McDowell Road East, Charlotteville, Norfolk County, Ontario address.
On Saturday, February 22, 2014 the Norfolk County OPP was contacted by a concerned resident regarding a phone call that was received at their residence. The homeowner indicated that they received a call from their granddaughter who was asking for money due to being injured and needing funds for legal assistance. The funds totalling $1,900 dollars was subsequently sent through a money transfer service.
Once the funds were forwarded another phone call was received by the concerned grandparent. This time the phone call was from an unknown male who indicated that they were a lawyer calling on behalf of their granddaughter and advised that more funds were needed.
No additional funds were sent and police were contacted. The OPP are reminding all Norfolk County residents to be extremely vigilant and to be alert for unsolicited calls, emails, faxes or visitors that arrive at your residence.
If anyone should receive a call in this manner, please contact your immediate family and inquire if anyone is in need of assistance. Please do not forward any funds without speaking to family members first.
