OPP INVESTIGATE PEDESTRIAN HIT ON HIGHWAY 401

(Lansdowne, ON) – On October 14, 2013, Ontario Provincial Police in Leeds and 1000 Islands Township were called to a motor vehicle collision on Hwy 401 near the village of Lansdowne, ON.

At around 11:45 p.m. officers arrived at the scene which was in the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 near mile marker 656.

Officers learned that a 22-year-old male operating a black 2012 Honda car, had stopped on the eastbound shoulder after he suspected he had a flat tire.

Upon exiting his car the driver was struck by another car, a black 2003 Nissan, travelling in the eastbound lanes.

Leeds Grenville Ambulance attended the scene.

OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) attended the scene.

Hwy 401 eastbound lanes were closed for several hours for the investigation.

Arif MERANI, 22 of Niagara Falls On was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is continuing at this time.
