OPP INVESTIGATE FATAL COLLISION

(TOWNSHIP OF SOUTHGATE, ON) – On Saturday, March 15, 2014 at approximately 11:41 a.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of male trapped under a truck as a result of a motor vehicle collision on Grey Rd. 8 between Southgate Road 12 and Southgate Road 14 in the Township of Southgate.

Initial investigation revealed that a Honda Civic had stopped on the travelled portion of the southbound lane on Grey Rd. 8 due to whiteout conditions at the time. The driver had exited his vehicle and was standing at the back of the vehicle when he and his vehicle were struck by a southbound International tanker truck. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending next of kin notification.

A third vehicle involved; a northbound Honda CRV, collided with the tanker truck. Two occupants in the CRV were taken to Mount Forest Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the tanker truck was not injured, but was taken to hospital for observation.

Grey County Emergency Services (EMS) and the Dundalk Fire Department assisted at the scene.

The OPP West Regional Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Unit is assisting with the investigation.

Grey Rd. 8 between Grey Rd. 9 and Hwy. 89 is closed for emergency responders and also due to treacherous driving conditions.
