OPP Cruiser Auto Detects Suspended Driver

(Tweed, ON) – On December 10, 2015 at 12:15 p.m. members of Central Hastings O.P.P utilized a police cruiser equipped with the Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) system to stop a driver identified to have a suspended drivers licence while travelling on Moira Street in the Municipality of Tweed.

Cameras mounted on the cruiser automatically scan licence plates which are checked against a database to see if the plates are expired or stolen or if the registered owner’s licence is suspended.

As a result of the traffic stop, the 49 year old female driver of Tweed, ON was charged with Drive While Under Suspension, Drive No Insurance and Drive Motor Vehicle No Validation on Plate contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. She will appear in Provincial Offences Court – Belleville in late January 2016.
