OPP CHARGE SOUTH RIVER MAN FOR TAMPERING WITH DAM

(SOUTH RIVER, ON) The Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a repeated mischief to the South River Dam located at Mill Street in the Village of South River, Ontario.

The first report the OPP received was on Friday June 13, 2014 that an unknown person(s) had removed logs from the dam in order to alter the water flow over the dam. Subsequent complaints were made to the OPP, again that logs were removed from the dam in South River.

On Sunday July 20, 2014 OPP arrested and charged Robert WHITEHEAD, 57 of South River, Ontario with Mischief, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. The accused was also charged with several counts of Alter, Improve or Repair Dam without Minister’s Approval and Obstruct Inspector or Engineer, contrary to the Lakes and River Improvement Act.

The accused was released from police custody and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sundridge, Ontario on Thursday, August 14, 2014.
