(BRIGHTON, ON) – On June 27, 2014 Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police began an investigation into a possible theft of a fishing boat from a local business but eventually was found to be sold fraudulently by a male who agreed to sell the boat for the owner.
The boat is a 16’ 2007 Legend X-Calibur with a 50 horsepower Mercury outboard motor on a 2007 Shore lander trailer. The 80 year old boat owner agreed to have a local businessman assist him with the sale of the boat for $11,000. The selling arrangements were agreed upon in early May, 2014.
The boat was sold for the asking price on June 11, 2014 but the funds were not turned over to the owner and after several attempts to obtain the money unsuccessfully from the sale of the boat, the owner contacted the police.
With the assistance of the detachment Crime Unit, Northumberland OPP concluded this investigation and has charged Michael WARREN, 33 from Brighton, Ontario with one count of Fraud over $5,000 under the Criminal Code. He has been released on a promise to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on September 17, 2014 at 9:30 am in Cobourg.
