(Chatham-Kent, ON) On the 21st of October, 2013 at 11:15 a.m. the Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were contacted by a concerned motorists on the 401 Highway about a tractor-trailer that was driving in an erratic manner.
Police located the rig which was weaving in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed, the vehicle was stopped shortly after.
The driver Donald MONGRAIN, a 29 year old Michigan man was charged with Speeding 123km/hr in a 100 km/hr zone and Drive Commercial Motor Vehicle Not Equipped with Working Speed-Limiting System under the Highway Traffic Act.
Drivers expose themselves to a number of dangers by exceeding speed limits. Driving at higher speeds induces major stress that results in driver fatigue and loss of concentration. Speeding makes it more difficult to react to changes, stop suddenly and control the vehicle and in case of a collision, the higher the speed the more severe the collision. In Ontario commercial vehicles are required to be equipped with a working speed limiting system which limits their speed to a maximum of 105 km/h.
