(KAPUSKASING, ON) – A joint investigation involving the Hearst Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the Kapuskasing OPP, the James Bay OPP Detachment Crime Unit, the OPP Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU), the OPP North East Region Canine Unit and OPP North East Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) has resulted in the arrest of four males from Kapuskasing responsible for a home invasion event .The incident which took place at a Front Street residence in Hearst, Ontario, on March 2, 2014, resulted in a male and female victim obtaining medical treatment for non-life threatening injuries. Both victims have since been released from the hospital.
22 year old Sebastian THERRIEN, 21 year old Bobby BEAULIEU-ROUSSEAU, 18 year old Shawn MARTIN and Robert BENOIT, 58, all of Kapuskasing, Ontario, have been arrested and charged with 29 Criminal Code and one Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) offences collectively. The offences include six counts of Aggravated Assault, six counts of Assault with a Weapon, four counts of Robbery with a Weapon, three counts of Conspiracy to Commit Indictable Offence, two counts of Disguise with Intent, two counts of Break and Enter, two counts of Possession of Break In Instrument, three counts of Fail to Comply with Probation Order, all contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada, and one count of Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, contrary to the CDSA.
Following the comprehensive investigation conducted by the OPP, the accused, Sebastian THERRIEN and Bobby BEAULIEU-ROUSSEAU were held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane on March 12, 2014 and still remain in custody. Shawn MARTIN was released on a Promised to Appear, subsequent to his arrest and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Kapuskasing on April 20, 2014. Robert BENOIT was also released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Hearst on May 7, 2014.
