Numerous Impaired Charges Over The Weekend

(WELLINGTON COUNTY, ON) – On July 31, 2015 at approximately 9:30 p.m. members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting R.I.D.E. spot checks on Wellington Road 125 at Wellington Road 50 in Erin Township. Officers observed northbound vehicle turn around in attempt to avoid speaking with police. The driver was stopped and officers observed signs of alcohol consumption. A Roadside Screening Device test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was transported to a local OPP Operation Centre for further testing. Steven JACOBS, age 33 of Mississauga has been charged with Drive over 80 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on September 8, 2015 to answer to his charge.

During the same R.I.D.E. spot check a driver of a Pontiac G5 was spoken to and officers detected signs of alcohol consumption. A Roadside Screening Device test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was transported to a local OPP Operation Centre for further testing. Katherine OSBORNE, age 51 of Guelph was charged with Drive over 80 Contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. She is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on August 28, 2015 to answer to the charge.

On July 31, 2015 at approximately 9:45 p.m. officers stopped a vehicle travelling southbound on Highway 9 in Minto Twp. for speeding. Officers observed signs of alcohol consumption and a Roadside Screening Device test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was transported to an OPP Operations Centre for further testing. Stewart VALLANCE, age 59 of Harriston was charged with Drive over 80 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on August 21, 2015 to answer to the charge.

On July 31, 2015 at approximately 2:50 p.m. OPP responded to a traffic complaint on Highway 6 southbound at Wellington Road 17. The driver of a brown GMC was stopped and spoken to. The driver registered a fail on the Roadside Screening Device test and was transported to an OPP Operations Centre for further testing. Tony SHATTLER, age 44 of Niagara was charged with Drive over 80 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on August 28, 2015 to answer to the charge.

In all the above incidents the driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days as per statute.
