(Tiny Township, On)- Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched at 5:32pm on February 8, 2014 to the water’s edge in the Woodland Beach area of Tiny Township. Officers were joined by several Paramedics from the Simcoe County Paramedic Service and the Tiny Township Fire Service after the OPP Central Communications Centre received a call from a resident reporting several persons on the frozen ice surface appeared to the be in trouble approximately a kilometer off shore.
Two adults, a male and female eventually came to shore after hearing the sirens of responding emergency vehicles and it was learned that neither was actually in trouble on the ice but rather a case of mistaken communication between the male and the female observed by the caller.
Emergency services wish to remind ice surface users that they should carry cell phones so they may communicate with each other and with emergency services if required who are tasked with investigating and formulating a rescue plan and arranging resources for on ice rescues.
