(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) –Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls this past week, here are some examples:
Aug 17:
– 911 dialled at 3:33am by a Brighton man who had fallen down when trying to get into his apt. The uninjured man was left in the care of a family member.
– Officers assisted Port Hope Fire Dept on Hwy 401 WB off ramp at 9:44am where a transport truck’s contents caught fire. The fire was extinguished and determined to be a garbage container, not suspicious in nature, no injuries
– A Cramahe Twp resident on Fiddick Rd reported a suspicious person on the back deck of the house at 9:15pm. Members from the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and K9 attended the area to assist detachment officers but were unable to locate the male who fled on foot. He is described as between 20-30 yrs, 160lbs, 5 9”, with short brown hair wearing a red T-shirt. Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact the Brighton detachment at 613-475-1313 or toll free 1-888-310-1122
– At 11:02pm an officer observed a blue Mazda southbound on County Rd 8 in Trent Hills. The vehicle crossed the centre line several times and was stopped to determine the sobriety of the driver. The driver failed a roadside test, was arrested and taken to the Campbellford detachment for further testing. As a result of these tests, Emma MICHEL age 23 of Mississauga Ontario is charged with having Care & Control of a motor vehicle while her blood alcohol content exceeded 80mg in 100ml of blood. She was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on September 9, 2015.
Aug 18:
– At 8:07am a motorist in Campbellford noticed a toddler in diapers standing near the roadway waving at cars. She stopped and asked the child where they lived. The child pointed to a nearby house. Officers attended after no-one answered the concerned citizen’s door knocks. The mother was at home and told police that apparently her child had figured out how to get through the safety locks. The toddler was returned safely. Parents are reminded to continuously re-examine their child safety precautions as their children grow older and wiser.
– An Alnwick-Haldimand Twp resident reported his identity stolen and fraudulent charges of approx. $25,000 to credit cards opened up in his name. Investigation ongoing.
– A young child dialed 911 on a recently de-activated cell phone in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp. Parents are reminded that 911 still functions on unused cell phones as a safety precaution.
– At 11:30pm a black Chev Colorado was stopped for speeding on County Rd 45 south of Hastings. The driver was found to have been drinking and failed a roadside test. He was arrested and taken to the Campbellford detachment for further tests. As a result of these tests, Justin WALMSLEY age 28 of Scarborough Ontario is charged with having Care & Control of a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol content exceeded 80mg in 100ml of blood. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on September 9, 2015.
Aug 19:
– A Port Hope resident on the 4th Line reported the theft of his weed eater this past week from his garage. Described as a Stihl, Model FS40, Serial Number S01042089, orange and white in colour
– At 11:27am an officer observed a vehicle being operated the wrong way on a one-way street in Campbellford. The driver, 26 yr old North Kawartha Twp man, was found to have a suspended licence and was charged accordingly
– A yellow Dodge Neon attempted to avoid a RIDE check on Crowe River Rd in Seymour Twp at 8:14pm. The owner, a 28 yr old Kingston woman, was found to have no insurance for the car and was charged accordingly.
