Northumberland Weekly News Brief

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) –Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls this past week, here are some examples:

Sept 14:

– An intoxicated woman was located walking on County Rd 2 in Hamilton Twp at 1:15am. She taken to a nearby relative’s home for the night

– Police attended a Hamilton Twp home and apprehended a man for his own safety. He was taken to hospital to receive treatment for his mental health issues

– Police responded to a domestic dispute at a Hamilton Twp home and arrested a 49 year old woman for breaching conditions of a prior release.

– A Campbellford gas station reported a theft of $20 gas prior to closing. Investigation ongoing.

Sept 15:

– Police attended a Campbellford senior’s residence after she dialed 911 and sounded confused. Officers ensured she was safe and receiving proper care

– Police were called to a Seymour Twp home to settle a dispute between two siblings arguing over a parent’s will which was before the courts. Advice was given

– The driver of a white Ford F150 was observed to be using a cell phone on Bridge St Hastings at 6:58pm. The 32 yr old local man was also deemed to have a suspended driver’s licence. He was charged accordingly.

– A green Ford Mustang was stopped at a RIDE program on County Rd 8 at 11:30pm. The driver, a 54 yr old Seymour Twp man, was found to have a suspended driver’s licence. He was charged accordingly and the car was towed from the scene.

Sept 16:

– Officers stood by a Percy Twp property while Hydro workers repaired a line. Police were called because of an agitated homeowner who has had issues with workers trimming his trees in the past.

– Police were called to Dale Road Public School when it was discovered someone had set a small fire overnight at the rear of the school. Nothing damaged, investigation ongoing

– Police attended a Colborne residence where a couple were arguing over a cell phone. One partner agreed to leave for the day. No charges resulted.

– Shoplifter arrested at a Campbellford grocery store. The 20 yr old local man was charged and $18 worth of merchandise was recovered.

Sept 17:

– A 55 yr old Hastings man was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place after ‘passing out’ in the driveway of the Beer Store in Hastings. He was held by police until sober

– Police are investigating the theft of a bottle of Vodka from the Red Barn liquor outlet in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp. Investigation ongoing

– A boater from Markham called 911 when he became disoriented on Rice Lake at dusk. OPP Provincial Communications Centre obtained GPS coordinates to determine his location. Hamilton Fire Dep’t then performed a marine rescue and guided the man safely back to shore.

– A 46 yr old Quebec man was stopped for speeding in his 2011 Mercedes on Hwy 401 in the Port Hope area. He was also found to have open liquor in the SUV. He was charged accordingly.

Sept 18:

– Police responded to a Hamilton Twp residence to a report of a couple arguing. As a result of the ensuing investigation, a man was arrested for breaching conditions of a release requiring him not to be near the address. He was held for a bail hearing. Name with held

– A Cramahe Twp man was taken to the hospital by police after a relative became concerned about his mental health.

– A Water St Hastings resident reported a break in to the home sometime through the day. Several items were taken. Investigation ongoing.

– A Campbellford resident reported the theft of her cell phone from her unlocked car while it was parked at the MTO office on Grand Rd

Northumberland OPP also investigated 10 motor vehicle collisions, 53 traffic related complaints and 15 ‘accidental’ 911 calls.
