(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – Officers from the Northumberland detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls this past week, here are some examples:
Dec 11:
Officers provided advice to an Alnwick-Haldimand Twp man experiencing a mental health crisis
Officers assisted a Brighton youth who was experiencing a mental health crisis by ensuring he received appropriate care at a hospital
Police attended a Colborne residence in response to a domestic disturbance. As a result of the investigation, the male partner was arrested and charged with Spousal Assault. Name with-held.
Dec 12:
Officers assisted an elderly man in a wheelchair on County Rd 45 Hamilton Twp by transporting him back to his residence
Police assisted Brighton Fire Department at a residence where an illegal bon-fire had been lit. Due to the occupant’s refusal to extinguish the fire, firefighters were forced to put the fire out.
Police assisted a female motorist on Hwy 401 in the Hamilton Twp area who had run out of gas.
Dec 13:
A 26 yr old Belleville woman was charged with Failing to Stop for police and speeding on County Rd 8 in Trent Hills shortly after midnight. She advised the officers that she didn’t see both cruisers emergency lights.
Report of a mailbox damaged on County Rd 10 in Port Hope sometime overnight
A youth was charged with Assault, Threatening and Mischief Under $5,000 relating to conflicts within a residence in Trent Hills
Dec 14:
Police responded to an alarm at a Alderville First Nations business shortly after midnight. All appeared secure when officers arrived and deemed a false alarm
A Trent Hills resident reported the theft of a square, one carat diamond solitaire ring in a plain gold setting. Valued at $5,000. Investigation ongoing
Police attended a Brighton home where a separated couple, still living under the same roof, were arguing over property. Advice was given and no charges resulted
Dec 15:
A Colborne area business owner reported two health inspectors trespassing on his property. Officers determined the two men were attempting to conduct an inspection. No further action was taken by police.
Police attended a Campbellford residence at the request of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and arrested a U.S. citizen who had over stayed his visa. The 58 yr old man from Georgia, U.S.A. was turned over to CBSA officers
An elderly man in a wheelchair was observed attempting to cross the Highway 401 overpass on County Rd 45 Hamilton Twp. Officers determined that he was suffering a mental health crisis. EMS transported him to a hospital where he could receive treatment.
Dec 16:
Police were called to a Brighton home after an elderly couple mistook a broadcast on TV as a real warning that there was an emergency
Officers attended a Port Hope address and located a missing elderly man from a Whitby nursing home. He was returned to the home in good health.
A Colborne man was arrested and charged with breaching the conditions of a prior release related to an assault committed earlier this month. He was held for a bail hearing. Name withheld
Dec 17:
A red 2009 Yamaha ATV was reported stolen from a Warkworth area garage. Ont. Lic. #72ZC2
A property owner on Dingman Rd Cramahe Twp reported the theft of a grey/turquoise cement mixer from his barn. Investigation ongoing
Police attended a motel in Brighton after receiving information that an individual was threatening self-harm. Officers located the man and stood by until a family member arrived to take him to a hospital for treatment
Northumberland OPP officers also conducted 43 RIDE programs, investigated eight accidental 911 calls, 14 motor vehicle collisions and 57 traffic related complaints.
