Northumberland Weekend News Brief

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) –Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls this past weekend, here are some examples:

Jun 19:

– Neighbour dispute between two farms in Hamilton Twp over cows getting loose and trampling bean crop. Advice provided.

– A Seymour Twp resident dialed 911 to report a neighbour having a fire creating smoke that was bothering him. Trent Hills Fire Dep’t attended with police and determined that the resident had a valid fire permit.

– A small beige/pink purse was found on Shelter Valley Rd Alnwick-Haldimand Twp and turned in to police. Attempts to contact the owner have been unsuccessful at this point

– Report of three pitbulls running loose on Little Lake Rd Brighton. Officers were unable to locate the dogs, no further complaints were received

– Police responded to a report of a worker at a Port Hope farm wandering around the field carrying a knife apparently disoriented. Officers located the woman who had returned to her temporary residence on the farm. She was compliant and had already returned the work knife. She was escorted off of the property at the request of the owner

Jun 20:

– While on patrol in Campbellford at 5am, officers observed three suspicious males in the downtown core. They were questioned after a brief foot chase. No apparent criminal activity was found. Alcohol was a contributing factor in their decision to run from the officer.

– A Brighton business owner contacted police concerned for the well-being of a disoriented senior who was in her shop. Officers located the woman and returned her home to her husband. The Alzheimer Society was notified for follow up

– A woman was cautioned by police for briefly leaving her infant in the car while she went into the En Route service centre in Port Hope. The infant was not harmed

– Officers assisted Prince Edward County OPP in locating family members of a couple who had been in a serious motor vehicle collision.

– Police responded to a family dispute in Hamilton Twp where several persons were involved in a fight. No-one was injured and the participants requested no further involvement from police (i.e. no charges). Alcohol was a contributing factor in the melee.

Jun 21:

– Two prank 911 calls from a pay phone at a resort in Seymour Twp at 2:25am are under investigation

– Noise complaint at rental cottage on Rice Lake in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp 2:40am (loud music/party). All was quiet when officers arrived.

– The owner of a Campbellford business on Bridge St East reported that someone threw a rock at the front window causing damage while he was inside (6:55am). Investigation ongoing.

– Police responded to a report of a vehicle fire on Hwy 401 in the Port Hope area (8:30am). Witnesses observed a woman and two children get out of the BMW SUV. The fire was extinguished by the fire dep’t and no one was injured. The cause of the fire is unknown.

– A Hamilton Twp woman reported being bitten by her (mixed breed) dog. She advised police that the dog has been with the family for seven years with no issues of aggression until today. She was taken to a nearby hospital by EMS for treatment to lacerations on her face and arm. Animal Control and the Health Unit were notified.

– Police were called to Presqu’ile Provincial Park for a youth who became intoxicated while camping with his girlfriend. Officers met the youth’s father at the campsite and assisted the father in removing his son from the park.

Northumberland OPP also conducted five RIDE programs, investigated 11 motor vehicle collisions and 29 traffic related complaints.
