(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) –Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls over Labour Day long weekend, here are some examples:
Sep. 4:
– Police were called to a Campbellford business when a van containing two dogs and a raccoon was left unattended in the heat. Officers spoke to the owner upon her return and cautioned her. All three animals were unharmed.
– Police attended a business parking lot on County Rd 28 in Port Hope to settle a dispute over a custody issue. No charges resulted.
– A Brighton resident complained about a ‘train air horn’ going off about twice a week. Officers referred him the bylaw office as this was an ongoing issue.
– A 52 yr old Brighton man was arrested and charged with Mischief Under $5,000 after throwing rocks at passing cars and cracking the windshield of an SUV. He was apparently upset by the dust caused by the vehicles.
Sep 5:
– Police attended a Trent Hills residence in response to a domestic assault complaint. As a result of the investigation, a 22 yr old man was charged with Assault, Breaching a Probation Order X3, Mischief Under $5,000 and Resisting Arrest. He was held for a bail hearing.
– Police responded to a domestic disturbance at a seasonal resort in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp. As a result of the investigation, a 29 yr old woman was charged with Assault, Possession of cocaine and Possession of marihuana. She was released with an impending court date.
– Police responded to Wicklow Beach in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp for a report of several nude swimmers at 4pm. They were gone when officers arrived.
– Police assisted Hamilton Twp Fire Dep’t at the scene of a house fire on Albert Ct. No apparent injuries and not deemed suspicious in nature.
Sep 6:
– Noise complaint at 1:19am at Brighton home. Large party quietened down by officers
– Noise complaint at 2:58am at Seymour Twp home. All quiet when officers arrived, party over
– Police attended a Hamilton Twp residence at 3:51am for a domestic dispute where a couple were arguing. Officers separated the couple for the night. No charges resulted.
– Police assisted Trent Hills Fire Dept in a search for a missing swimmer Campbellford area. (see full release)
Sep 7:
– A suspicious youth was observed near the Campbellford hospital in the parking lot at 3am. He was described as male, approx. 14yrs old, 5 8”, slim build, blonde/reddish hair wearing shorts and a polo shirt. The youth was gone when police arrived.
– Police attended a family dispute at a Campbellford building at 5:56am. A 41 yr old man was arrested and charged for being intoxicated in a public place. He was held in the Campbellford detachment cells until sober.
– A Trent Hills man was located by officers after threatening self-harm. He was taken to the hospital for help with his mental health issues.
– An Arkansas Sheriff Department contacted OPP to request a well-being check on a resident in Hamilton Twp. They had received a 911 call from one of their residents advising that a person on Facebook was thinking of self-harm. The person was located by officers and found not to be suicidal.
Northumberland OPP also conducted eight RIDE programs, investigated 47 traffic related complaints and 13 motor vehicle collisions.
