(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – City of Kawartha Lakes (CKL) Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a two vehicle collision at approximately 12:15 am on September 10, 2015. The collision occurred on Highway 7 just west of Manilla.
Officers were advised that a number of young persons had fled the scene on foot. CKL officers attended along with Emergency Response Team (ERT) members and a Canine officer (K9).
A K9 track was initiated and two persons were located and arrested.
Alex PERLMUTTER, 18 years of age, of Mount Albert was charged with the following offences and held for a bail hearing:
Breach of Recognizance contrary to Section 811 of the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC)
Fail to Stop at Scene of Accident contrary to Section 252 of the CCC
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) CCC
The second person is a young person as defined by the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) and won’t be identified. That person was charged with Fail to Stop at Scene of Accident contrary to Section 252 of the CCC and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 contrary to Section 354(1)(a) of the CCC and held for a bail hearing.
Through the course of the night and early morning hours all the occupants that fled the crash were located.
Justin ROSE, 19 years of age, of Mount Albert was located by a uniform CKL officer and charged with Fail to Comply with Sentence contrary to Section 137 of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) and held for a bail hearing.
The final person was located by an alert homeowner. The homeowner then contacted police. The young person was arrested, charged with the following offences and held for bail:
Trespassing at Night contrary to Section 177 of the CCC
Theft Under $5000 contrary to Section 334(b) of the CCC
Theft Under $5000 from a Motor Vehicle contrary to Section 334(b) of the CCC
The injuries sustained in the collision were all minor.
