(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 152 incidents this past weekend, here are some examples:
Sept 16:
Police assisted EMS on Hwy 401 in the Grafton area where a female motorist was having seizures. She was transported to a hospital by paramedics for treatment.
Police were notified of a couple with a small child arguing near a car pulled over to the side of the road on County Rd 2 in Brighton. Officers determined that they were arguing over child care issues. No charges resulted and they spent the rest of the day apart.
Break-in reported to a home on County Rd 24 in Trent Hills sometime between 10:30am – 4:00pm. The culprit(s) forced open a door and stole a 14K gold woman’s bracelet, and three 14K gold ladies rings with diamonds and rubies.
Break-in reported to a home on Concession Rd 8 near Richardson Rd in Trent Hills sometime between 8:00am – 4:45pm. The culprit(s) forced the front door open and stole a quantity of jewellery, cash (incl. collectible Cdn quarters), gaming consoles (Wii, Playstation 4, Nintendo) and related controllers/games.
A field party on Leach Rd in Hamilton Twp was dispersed by officers. The youths left without incident.
Sept 17:
A field party near Peacock Ln in the Colborne area was dispersed by officers. The youths left without incident.
A coyote was observed in the Butler St Brighton area and confirmed by an officer who observed it run into a forested area.
Police attended a business on Dale Rd in Hamilton Twp in an attempt to locate a man who family members reported was ‘out of control’ and possibly armed with a knife. While at the business police observed the man interacting with another man in the parking lot. He was arrested and found to be in possession of a knife. The second male fled the scene in an SUV causing an officer to take evasive action to avoid being struck. That male was later arrested at his residence. The initial man, a 26 yr old Hamilton Twp resident, is charged with Possession of weapons dangerous and breaching a probation order. The second male is charged with Dangerous Operation of a motor vehicle, Possession of weapons dangerous and Possession of a Schedule II substance; cannabis marihuana – under 30g. Both were held for a bail hearing. Names with held.
Sept 18:
Break-in reported to a home on County Rd 45 in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp sometime over the past week. The culprit(s) stole an older model 54 inch Samsung flat screen TV and a Denon Receiver.
An SUV was backing a boat & trailer into a private driveway on Ontario St in Hamilton Twp at 8:24pm. A southbound pickup truck collided with the trailer flipping the boat and trailer on to its side. The driver of the truck, a 67 yr old Cobourg man, was charged with Careless Driving. The boat and trailer suffered extensive damages and no one was injured.
An intoxicated mother in Campbellford contacted police after an argument with her adult daughter who refused to clean up her dishes. The daughter willingly left for the night to keep the peace.
Officers assisted in transporting an organ from Whitby to an Ottawa area hospital.
Northumberland OPP officers also investigated four accidental 911 calls, 10 motor vehicle collisions, 35 traffic related complaints and conducted two RIDE programs over this weekend.
