New Poll: Would The Upcoming Video Community Watch Program Lower Crime?

After the abduction attempt last year, our IT consultant was charged
with the task of creating a system/process to ensure that any future
abductors would be caught and/or identified before they left
town.  Over the last year, several options have been explored
and debated.  The perfect solution would be to lower a cage
over Wingham, putting the entire town in lock down.  This
obviously is not possible, but the goal was to use technology to get as
close as possible to this goal.

Over the last few months, equipment and software have been tested
and evaluated for a Video Community Watch Program.  An
estimated forty homes are required in Wingham, to create an
effective surveillance grid.  This would virtually guarantee
that abductors, night prowlers and other criminals would be caught
on video.  Police could be notified via email within minutes of
a crime, with a copy of photos or videos. If 100 homes participated,
night prowlers would likely be identified and caught within hours of
them testing car doors, to see if they are locked.

If there is enough support for this initiative, Wingham could become
one of the safest towns in Canada.  It is time the criminals
fear walking the streets at night, instead of the law-abiding
taxpayers.

In order to participate, you will need an internet connection,
preferably high speed with wifi.  Cameras with installation
range from $75 – $150.  Block Parent homes are eligible for a
discounted price of $50, which includes installation.  This is
to show appreciation for them offering their homes as safe havens
for those in distress, and helping to protect our community.
