Location: KRUG ST and MELROSE AVE, KITCHENER ON Canada
On July 26 at approximately 1:24pm, an 89 yr. old Kitchener woman driving a red Pontiac Montana van westbound on Melrose Rd. in Kitchener was stopped at Krug St. for a stop sign. At this time, a bicycle ridden by a 31 yr. old Kitchener woman was northbound on Krug St. approaching Melrose Rd. The driver of the van waited for one northbound vehicle to pass before pulling out to turn left onto Krug St and into the path of the cyclist. The cyclist swerved to the left but could not avoid the van which struck her. The cyclist was thrown from her bicycle and suffered a head injury as a result. She was later transported to Grand River Hospital for treatment. The van driver and her 86 yr. old husband were not injured. The van driver was later charged with Fail To Yield To Traffic On Through Highway.
