More Stunt Drivers Nabbed

(PERTH COUNTY, ON.) -Stunt driving continues to be an issue on Perth County highways.

In the Township of Perth East, a motorist was stopped by a member of the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), travelling 121 kilometres per hour in a posted 60 kilometre per hour zone. The driver, 35-year-old Sultan RANA of Brantford was charged with Race a Motor Vehicle-Excessive Speed, contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act. This resulted in a driver’s licence suspension for seven days and a motor vehicle impoundment for seven days.

A similar incident in the Municipality of West Perth also garnered police attention. 33-year-old Simon BARRETT of Welland was stopped by a member of the Perth County OPP travelling 170 kilometres per hour in a posted 80 kilometre per hour zone. He was charged with Drive Motor Vehicle-Perform Stunt, contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act. This also resulted in a seven day driver’s licence suspension and a seven day motor vehicle impoundment.

Drivers should be well aware of the dangers posed by excessive speed. Posted speed limits are in place for public safety and have been technically and scientifically calculated. Exceeding these limits increases the risk of serious injury or death in the event of a collision.
