Suckers Fall For Counterfeit US Bills In Perth

(PERTH COUNTY, ON) – Members of the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are reminding the public to be vigilant when accepting international or large denomination currency. Counterfeit USA bills have been located across Perth County and continue to circulate.

Legal Canadian currency contains several security features. All bills in current circulation are made of polymer. The texture is smooth and areas will contain raised ink. The transparent sections should be seen on both sides of the bill, and details will be present in the metallic images. Flipping the bill over, the metallic images should be repeated in the same colours and details.

Counterfeit currency will often vary in size (slightly smaller/larger), paper consistency, and wording. Recently seized counterfeit USA bills in Perth County were found to contain words written in other languages. Be aware of souvenirs that may also have the appearance of a bill. Without careful inspection, they could appear to be authentic.

Retailers have the right to refuse payments made with any large denomination bills and can request an alternative method. Employers should ensure that all staff members are aware of the presence of counterfeit bills in our area, and encourage employees to notify police if any counterfeit bills are received.
