More Impaired Drivers Busted

Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were active across Peterborough County initiating R.I.D.E. programs in an effort to remove impaired drivers from our roadways over the weekend.

(NORTH KAWARTHA TOWNSHIP, ON) Officers set up a RIDE program on a snowmobile trail near Peterborough County Road 620 Saturday shortly before 8:30pm. A snowmobile operator failed to stop at the spot check and fled. Through investigation the male rider was identified and arrested.

Michael COPPINS (age 22) of North Kawartha Township was charged with:

Driving with more than 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood

Driving while disqualified

Drive motorized snow vehicle with no insurance

Drive motorized snow vehicle trail permit not issued

Fail to stop for police officer

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough. Ontario on March 21, 2017.

(SELWYN TOWNSHIP, ON) Police stopped a vehicle for failing to lower its high beams on Robinson Road Saturday evening shortly before 9:30pm. The male driver was found to have been drinking.

Jason CHARRON (age 40) of Selwyn Township, Ontario was arrested at the scene and charged with:

Impaired driving

Driving with more than 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood

Driving while suspended

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough. Ontario on March 16, 2017.

The Peterborough OPP reminds motorists to plan ahead when consuming alcohol use a designated driver, utilized a cab or public transit or stay overnight. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements.

The OPP are committed to highway safety and will continue to continue to take enforcement action against impaired drivers. RIDE programs will continue to be utilized as a tool for officers all year.
