More Impaired Drivers Arrested

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – The City of Kawartha Lakes detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was busy removing impaired drivers from the roadways this weekend, arresting four drivers in four separate incidents.

On August 7th an officer responded to a motor vehicle collision on Glenarm Road, near Kagawong Road. Investigation determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol. As a result of the investigation Thomas Brown, 63 years of age, of St. Catharines, was charged with the following offences:

•Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Impaired contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

•Driving a motor vehicle with more than 80mgs of alcohol, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on September 13, 2018.

On August 5th an officer was patrolling Highway 35 near Killarney Bay Road and stopped a vehicle for speeding. The ensuing investigation resulted in the driver, Rodger Moore, 55 years of age, of Fenelon Township being arrested and charged with the offence of driving a motor vehicle with more than 80mgs of alcohol, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on September 13, 2018.

On August 5th an officer responded to a minor single vehicle collision in which a vehicle had run over the planters at a resort in Bobcaygeon. The officer located the vehicle and the subsequent investigation resulted in the driver being arrested. Cheryl Madgett, 54 years of age, of Bobcaygeon was charged with the offence of driving a motor vehicle with more than 80mgs of alcohol, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on September 20, 2018.

On August 4th an officer responded to a call related to a traffic complaint. Upon locating the vehicle, the officer conducted an investigation that led to the arrest of the driver. Patricia Graham-Surdyka, 57 years of age, of Minden Hills, was arrested and charged with the offence of Operating a Motor Vehicle While Impaired contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, in Lindsay, on September 6, 2018.

Road safety is a shared responsibility and the OPP would like to remind motorists that if they are going to drink they should have a plan in place for a safe ride home. Failing to plan is planning to fail.
