(MIDDLESEX COUNTY, ON)- Members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have responded to numerous motor vehicle collisions in areas just north and west of London. Police are advising that sections of roadways throughout the County and snow covered with some icy patches.
Police are reminding the public that winter weather can be unpredictable and variable, placing extra demands on vehicles and their drivers. Icy roads, heavy snow and poor visibility are all part of the winter driving experience in Southwestern Ontario. Weather changes, particularly during the winter, can occur suddenly and dramatically. Without warning, sudden storms and ever changing temperatures that can drastically change road conditions and reduce visibility.
It’s important to remember that safe winter driving starts with you. Allow extra time travelling to and from destinations in winter. Slow down and travel below the posted speed limit to avoid a serious or deadly collision.
Driving too fast for weather and road conditions is a causal factor in many of the collisions the OPP investigates. The best way to ensure you reach your destination safely in winter weather is to slow down and drive according to the road and weather conditions.
Motorists should ensure that their vehicle is prepared for winter driving conditions, check weather and road reports before they leave and adjust their driving habits accordingly.
