(CHATHAM, ON) On April 15, 2017, a Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was conducting RADAR enforcement on Highway 401 near Bloomfield Road when they observed an eastbound vehicle exceeding the posted speed limit of 100 km/hr. The RADAR registered a speed in excess of 130 km/hr.
Members conducted a traffic stop and while speaking with the driver, the officer determined the driver had consumed alcohol. The driver was transported to detachment for further tests.
Upon further investigation, the male driver, Maxwell SMITH, 41-years-old of Windsor, Ontario, was charged drive motor vehicle with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada and Speeding contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
The accused is required to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on June 6, 2017 to answer to the charges.
