Man Arrested on VIA Train

A Windsor man is in police custody following an on-board disturbance on a VIA train last night.

At 8:40 p.m. VIA Rail called the Chatham-Kent police about an disruptive man with a knife aboard a passenger train travelling from Toronto to Windsor.

It is alleged that a male passenger was demonstrating bizarre behaviour that included talking to himself, having an agitated demeanor, and swearing at other passengers.

At 9:12 p.m. the train arrived at the Chatham train station, officers boarded the train and arrested the man without further incident. During a search incident to his arrest, a pocket knife was located in his property.

No passengers or officers were injured as a result of this incident. No direct threats were made to anyone although passengers reported having concerns about the man’s behaviour.

A 35-year-old Windsor man has been charged with causing a disturbance and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
