Male Charged After Gas Meter Collision

(CASTLETON, ON) – On Sunday December 21, 2014 Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a serious two vehicle collision just after 7:00pm after a vehicle was struck and sent into a gas line meter.

OPP officers attended to the Haynes Road and County Road 25 area in Cramahe Township and found that a Jeep Wrangler had struck a Chevy Blazer.

Investigation determined that the Blazer had pulled out onto the roadway from a private driveway into the oncoming path of the southbound Jeep on County Road 25. The Blazer was sent on to a property on Haynes Road where it hit a gas meter but did not remove it. There was no damage to the residence.

Police continued this investigation after both male drivers were transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The gas company attended to the scene to inspect and repair the gas meter as a precaution.

Nicholas MORIARTY, age 24 from Baltimore, Ontario has been served Provincial Offence Notices for the following offences under the Highway Traffic Act:

Fail to yield from driveway

Permit use of plate not authorized for vehicle

Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle

Driver – fail to properly wear seat belt

The accused was served a Provincial Offences Act summons for operate motor vehicle without insurance under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. He is scheduled to appear in Provincial Offences Court on Thursday February 12, 2015 at 9:00 am in Brighton.
