(HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, ON) – Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were conducting RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) spot checks on Friday March 7, 2014 when a vehicle was observed to have stopped a short distance from the officer’s location that made obvious it wanted to avoid going through the spot check.
The two officers had set up a RIDE spot check on Ontario Street at June Street in Hamilton Township around 8:00 pm. At approximately 8:19 pm the officers observed a blue 2004 Jeep southbound on Catherine Street, one block east, approaching June Street that had stopped abruptly at the t- intersection. It sat there for a bit and then proceeded eastbound on June away from the officers. One officer stopped the Jeep and entered into an investigation about the driver’s sobriety. The male was arrested by the officer and taken to Cobourg OPP detachment for breath tests.
Mark R. TEMPLE, 43 from Castleton, Ontario has been charged with one count each of impaired operation of motor vehicle and driving with more than 80 milligrams of blood alcohol content.
The accused was released on a promise to appear on Wednesday March 19, 2014 in the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at 9:30 am. He was also issued a 90 day driver’s licence suspension and seven day vehicle impoundment documents.
