(CALEDON, ON) – On August 15, 2014 shortly before midnight, an officer from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting speed enforcement on the Forks of the Credit Road. The officer observed a group of vehicles travelling eastbound in a cluster and kept observation until the vehicles entered onto Highway 10. The officer noted that the vehicles began to exceed the posted limit and proceeded ahead of the pack to intercept the vehicles. The officer activated the cruiser’s emergency lights and had the vehicles pulled off the roadway onto the gravel portion. While the officer was speaking with the driver of the lead vehicle, the driver of a white Honda revved his vehicle at which time the vehicle lost traction and skidded onto the paved highway. The driver once again revved the vehicle’s engine and managed to drive around the officer, heading southbound on Highway 10 at a high rate of speed.
Subsequently, the officer entered his police cruiser and proceeded after the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle shut off his driving lights in order to evade police. The officer closed in the distance between him and the vehicle and obtained a speed measurement of 124 km/hr. in a posted 80 km/hr. The officer successfully conducted a vehicle stop on Boston Mills with the vehicle.
As a result, Gregory PERRY, 24, from Burlington was arrested and charged with Dangerous Driving. He is further charged with Fail to stop for Police, Race a Motor Vehicle and Speeding under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.
The vehicle was impounded for seven days.
The driver is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on October 9, 2014.
