Mail Theft Charges Laid

(PRINCE EDWARD COUNTY, ON) – On November 19, 2015, investigators from the Prince Edward County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police(OPP) launched an investigation into the theft of mail from a mailbox in Prince Edward County.

Later that day, an officer stopped a vehicle on County Road 3 near Barley Road. Investigators located mail within the vehicle that did not belong to the driver.

As a result, officers charged Allan James RIOPELLE, 54 of The Nation, ON. He is charged with 3 counts of Possession of Article Stolen from Mail and 1 count of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime. He was released on bail and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Picton on January 6, 2016.

Members of the Prince Edward County Crime Unit and detachment investigators conducted a search warrant at the accused’s residence, identifying several other victims. The investigation is continuing with the assistance of Canada Post. Further charges are pending.
