LOCAL OPP KEPT BUSY DURING THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY WEEKEND

(SOUTH PORCUPINE) – The South Porcupine OPP and its satellite detachments were kept busy with a variety of occurrences for the duration of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

A 28 year old Timmins, Ontario woman was charged with Driving While Using Handheld Communications Device contrary to the Highway Traffic Act after having been stopped on Hwy 101 in Mountjoy Twp on October 11th, 2013.

An alert OPP officer observed the driver of a Ford Crown Victoria passenger vehicle allegedly using a cell phone while driving.

As a result, the vehicle was stopped and the driver interviewed at the roadside.

Hillery EDWARDS, 28, of Timmins was served with an Offence Notice stemming from the incident.

On October 12th a Matheson OPP officer had occasion to stop a BMW Z-4 passenger vehicle for an alleged speeding violation on Hwy 101 in the Matheson area.

A routine verification indicated that the driver was currently under suspension in Ontario.

As a result, Jeannot AUDET, 58, of Ste-Germaine De Boule, Quebec, has been charged with Driving Under Suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

He is required to attend Provincial Court in Timmins on December 19th to answer to the charge laid against him.

On October 13th, a Timmins man driving a 2007 GMC Sierra pickup truck was stopped for an alleged speed violation on Hwy 101.

Further routine investigative checks revealed that the vehicle was not insured and the validation did not apply to the vehicle being driven.

As a result, Jason MCALLISTER, 31, of Timmins must attend Provincial Court in Timmins on November 14th to answer to the charge of Driving Without Insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

A traffic complaint centering on a vehicle being driven at high speed and in an erratic fashion was received by the Ontario Provincial Police on October 14th.

The vehicle was located a short while later on Hwy 655 north of Timmins.

The driver was interviewed at the roadside and based on observations made by the officers the 54 year old Kapuskasing man was arrested and taken into police custody.

Scott MORGAN, 54, of Kapuskasing, has been charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

He is required to attend Provincial Court in Timmins on December 10th to answer to the charge laid against him.
