(THAMES CENTRE, ON) – A Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program was effective in stopping a driver from continuing a dangerous but all-too common driving behaviour.
On December 4, 2014 at approximately 12:38 a.m. members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) West Region Highway Enforcement Team were conducting a RIDE program at the intersection of Shaw Road and Gore Road. A vehicle approached the RIDE checkpoint. The driver of that vehicle was showing signs of impairment when interacting with police and he was arrested.
The driver was brought to the police detachment for further tests. As a result of the investigation, Kyle SKIBA, age 22 of Thames Centre, Ontario was charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drug under the Criminal Code of Canada. He was further charged under the Highway Traffic Act for Drive Motor Vehicle Hand-Held Communication Device and Drive Motor Vehicle – No Currently Validated Permit.
The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in a London courtroom January 15, 2015 to speak to the charges.
