(TAY TOWNSHIP, ON) – On Sunday October 23, 2016 at approximately 11:30 a.m. the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call regarding a vehicle being operated aggressively on Highway 400 Southbound in Georgian Bay Township, ON.
A short time later an officer observed the suspect vehicle travelling southbound on Highway 400 at Vasey Road. The officer observed the driver of the suspect vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed and determined the speed to be 170 km/hr. in a 100 km/hr. zone. Police attempted to stop the suspect vehicle but it continued southbound away from police.
At 11:55 a.m. the same morning, the suspect vehicle was involved in a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 400 at Highway 93. Further investigation determined that the driver had fled the scene on foot. With the assistance of the Central Region OPP Canine Unit the area was searched and the suspect was located and arrested. The driver, John Robert PLANTE (age 52) of Barrie, ON is charged with:

Driving while Disqualified – court order
Driving while Disqualified – Provincial Suspension
Highway Traffic Act offences
Drive Motor vehicle – Perform Stunt – Speeding by 50 km/h or more
Speeding – 170 km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone
Fail to Remain
Drive while Under Suspension
The accused has been held for a bail hearing in Barrie, Ontario at a later date
