John ANDREWS – Drunk Driving, Drive While Suspended

(THESSALON, ON) – On November 14, 2016, shortly before 9:00 p.m., members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint from an off-duty police officer of a possible impaired driver. The vehicle was westbound on Highway 17.

Approximately 15 minutes later members of the Thessalon OPP detachment located a pick-up matching the vehicle description on Highway 17, east of the Town of Thessalon and a traffic stop was initiated.

Officers determined the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverage and was arrested. The vehicle was towed and impounded for 7 days.

As a result, John ANDREWS 45 years of age, from Oshawa, Ontario, was charged with:

Driving While Ability Impaired- Motor Vehicle, contrary to section 253(1) of the Criminal Code (CC);

Care and Control Over 80 milligrams, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the CC; and

Driving While Under Suspension, contrary to section 53 of the Highway Traffic Act.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on December 15, 2016 for the criminal matters and appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie on January 11, 2017 for the provincial matter.
