(TILLSONBURG, ON.) – On June 7, 2016 at approximately 7:50 a.m. Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed a vehicle travel through the four way stop at the intersection of Concession Street and Quartertown Line in Tillsonburg without stopping and then accelerate at a high rate of speed.
Police observed the vehicle to be travelling at approximate speeds up to 150km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone. The traffic stop was initiated on Lowrie Line in Southwest Oxford Township. Based on the observations and investigative steps taken by police, the male driver, 34 year old James PATERSON of Tillsonburg was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with the following:
Race a motor vehicle – excessive speed
Disobey stop sign – fail to stop
His driver’s licence was suspended for 7 days and the vehicle has been impounded for the prescribed 7-day period.
Drivers who engage in high risk driving behavior put everyone at risk. Speeding makes it difficult for drivers to react to change, stop suddenly and control a vehicle. In the case of a collision, the higher the speed the more severe the collision and the more likely that serious injury or death will occur.
