(PETROLIA, ON) – On Sunday November 1st, 2015 at approximately 1:07 a.m., a member of the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on general patrol travelling northbound on Ontario Street, Grand Bend, Ontario. At this time, the officer observed a motor vehicle travelling southbound on Ontario Street, traveling towards the officer. The driver of the motor vehicle then suddenly turned eastbound, directly in front of the on-coming police cruiser, narrowly avoiding a collision.
OPP conducted a traffic stop and during this stop, the investigating officer formed the opinion that the driver of the motor vehicle was impaired due to the consumption of alcoholic beverages. The male driver was arrested and transported to the Lambton OPP – Grand Bend Detachment for breath testing which resulted in readings more than twice the legal limit.
As a result, 35 year-old, James David FLETCHER of Lakeshore, ON was charged with:
Driving While Ability Impaired
Driving With More Than 80mgs of Alcohol in Blood
The accused will appear in the Sarnia Ontario Court of Justice on Monday December 7th, 2015.
The OPP is reminding drivers that any amount of alcohol or other drugs can impair one’s ability to drive. Impaired driving remains the leading cause of criminal death in Canada.
